Our Review

Let's be honest, it was going to happen eventually. Richard Branson is taking on the biggest of them all Sky with his new venture Virgin Media.

Virgin Media is aggressively competing with its competitors. Virgin Media Broadband packages are too good to be refused. You can very expect such deals from Richard Branson, one of the most dashing entrepreneurs in UK. In such recessionary times of today, such broadband deals not only allow you to save a lot of money but also serve the purpose.

Virgin Media can offer you:
  • With a 10 Mb fiber optic you get exceptionally great speed
  • Downloading your favorite films, music tracks and photos becomes a speedier task.
  • The 50 Mb package is most preferred and along with comes a super sleek and state of art modem, a wireless N router and adaptor
    too.
  • With Virgin Broadband connection, you can also go in for a wireless broadband or a wi-fi which allows you to get internet access everywhere and anywhere you go. You can use it at home for a wire free internet connection or your laptop making your life truly easier.

  • * Please note that these packages are only available on cable packages

This service is rubbish. The amount of times I sit down to watch telly and the channels are unavailable. Very annoying. On demand is just a joke. I wouldn't bother....
    *****  Review by pat d. - 16 February 2008
Broadband is great, likewise the phone, TVneeds investment in better IT. Tends to need to have the set-top box`rebooted very frequently sometimes daily when it has lost information, freezes or in some other way does not respond. The customer service has been good and average depending on the engineer. Telephone message at the start of costomer enquiries is just annoying!!
    *****  Review by Brian - 24 January 2008
Very disappointed at the start, enginer fixed up the broadband in ten minutes. He left then it started from one helper to another, this went for approx.two hour's gave in phoned around and got a computer man in it took him twenty min. to get me up and running a cost of £30.00 well worth it to stop the worry. Since I have been on broadband its another world ,hard to explain that it is just great I shall split the rating into two parts 2 for uploading the system and 5 for the product

I've been with Virgin for years, and although it's never been the cheapest, it has it's advantages such as Unlimited useage. I've now got Phone and Broadband bundled together, and whilst I pay for an 8Mbps service, it regularly runs like a snail. I've complained to Virgin so many times it's unbelievable, and they always ask me to jump through hoops just to prove to them that it's their problem. Even then they refuse to do anything about it. I'm in a 12 month contract which expires soon, and when it does, I'll be moving on. I don't mind paying for a good service, but I refuse to pay for a poor service and even poorer support (at Premium rate telephone). They've got worse.

    *****  Review by Stuart Stent - 19 November 2007
Sorry to add a sour note to the generally very enthusiastic reviews, but my experience with one of my two set top boxes has been very poor. Just had the third unit in just a few months installed. Engineer was here for nearly 1 hour (should take less than 10 mins.) Still no "On Demand" available.
    *****  Review by laura - 5 November 2007
pleased with what virgin has to offer ALTHOUGH virgin central for some reson keeps having problems, many times i have found it difficult to access what i want to watch and other times it cuts out whilst watching it can be very frustraiting when you work and have a limited ammount of time to watch a whole series
    *****  Review by Mark W - 31 October 2007
I have been with Virgin Media (was Eurobell) for over 4 years, from the start I had the landline, Digital TV and broadband, I can say that when things are going good the service is ace. Today I lost Broadband service (I’m an advance PC operator) so I call up to report it to Virgin Media, it was not a fault on my end as the neighbours lost there as well plus there was no signal coming to the modem box, I then get told I got to pay a premium phone no. to report a problem at Virgin Medias end, that’s bad. As I say when it going everything is good, but you have a loyal customer here who was trying to help you and report a fault of yours, and you want me to pay a premium no to report it. Some one in charge should look into this and have a separate no. to report faults at Virgin Medias end.

Virgin tries to keep us inform: that's nice I must say but I can't change my favourite I.E. where's the History channel, where is sky News Help.

Just had the V+ box installed, like Sky+ only better! I can record 2 channels whilst watching a third - excellent. I also recommend the VIP package, top speed broadband (much faster than sky can offer) mutiroom tv, unlimited phone calls and free sky movies and sports :-)
    *****  Review by syed husain - 17 May 2007
I wanted to move to virgin for the 4-way package because richard braunson is an excellent guy and he deserves to be on top. Unfortunately virgin was missing minority bengali, hindi and urdu channels so I could not do it. Pity though because with a proper market research richard would know that he is losing all those customers en masse.
    *****  Review by Mrs S Patel - 9 May 2007
cheap and since virgin have taken over much better, good customer services, the call centre in india was great, yes great! they sorted out my broadband connection in no time. Some old issues exist from the NTL days i.e billing can be improved. overall i recommend them and yes the savings are great too.
    *****  Review by Paul - 9 May 2007
Had broadband and home phone for over 4 years from Telewest and TV from Sky. Now switched TV to Virgin VIP package and very pleased all round. Advantages of V+ box far outwiegh the Sky service. Everybody with Sky should take account of all their 0870 numbers you have to ring if you want to contact them.
    *****  Review by Steven - 26 April 2007
Very good service love all the features of the V+ Box and the on demand etc it just needs more content and the V+ Box has a few bugs that needs ironed out otherwise its a great service but will say though that the deals have got better but the customer service was better when it was Telewest.
    *****  Review by H.Hosseini - 18 April 2007
Today I phoned to find out more about what other options I would be better off if I switch. They just offered me one year free double speed internet and some more TV chanal add to my package. What else do I want.

    *****  Review by George Colston - 22 March 2007
I have had V+ for 4 weeks it is great but I have two problems. Text is currently not available, which is inconvenient, and when I dial 150 nobody can tell me when it will be available.
    *****  Review by Lorna - 22 March 2007
Have been with NTL a few years, and now we have Virgin. No complaints thus far. All I know is... 1) My computer is fast, and the service is great ! 2) My phone bill - the cheapest it's EVER been, than with any other provider i've used. 3) And the T.V... a) I don't have an eyesore attached to the side of my house :) b) I can set the order that i'd like the channels to be in (you can't do that with Sky). c) I can change settings and "surf" t.v programmes whilst not missing the current show i'm watching (as its shown on the right hand side corder of the screen - Dont get that with Sky. d) I can browse the t.v channel bar at the bottom of the screen, and get info on a programme later in the day. (You can't do that with Sky, you have to exit to their menu and listen to crappy music). e) Not only can I set a reminder for programmes, but it will flick over to that channel for me IF I don't do it myself. (Don't get that with Sky). f) If I miss a programme during the week, most are available in the Interactive menu - free. g) I can get free or buy - episodes of my favourites. Eg: Black Books, Red Dwarf - to mention a few, and then there's also the movies you can buy. h) I can send e-mail from my t.v if needed. And there's so much MORE you can do. As for Sky taking off their cannel - No loss. Need I say more ? :)

Virgin media & Vista..... I upgraded my Pc to Microsoft Vista Ultimate as soon as I could after its launch. I have had NO TROUBLE WHATSOEVER with either Virgin media or vista, I simply plugged the modem in and was online immediately! Thanks for a wonderful service, ive got all 4 and more!
    *****  Review by Sarah Jakubait - 16 March 2007
Virgin Media have been fine until we upgraded to Microsoft Vista. Now have no e-mail service and customer services are currently not trained on Vista to be able to offer any help!! Think twice before upgrading your machine if you wish to stay with Virgin
    *****  Review by Jordan Taylor - 14 March 2007
Great for downloading music and games!
    *****  Review by JC Earle - 8 March 2007
The fight with Murdoch should not be by Richard Branson alone: where is Oftel? The government should oppose monopoly in broadcasting, even where the tycoon in question gave the Ruling Party unswerving support for years.
    *****  Review by Sheila Essex - 7 March 2007
Very good service. I would not willingly give 1 penny to Murdoch's business and thank you Mr. Branson for taking a stand against this man who seems to want global domination of world media in all it's forms
    *****  Review by Kip Laister-Dawe - 4 March 2007
I have only had this for a 2 weeks now and its brilliant, the only thing I find annoying is that I only get BBC1 in HD (or maybe ive not suused it all out yet, still brilliant though
    *****  Review by michelle - 3 March 2007
hats off to you its about time someone came up with ways of lowering your bills, i think the deals from vigin media are brilliant, i also think branson should have got the lottery.
*****  Review by Mrs Yvonne Tattersall - 1 March 2007
I have just had the most amazing conversation with a virgin operator who totally put my mind at rest & gave me a discount for my incovenience for the loss of some channels. Sky hold no candle to this kind of customer service when i left them they just said goodbye after 15 years.
    *****  Review by colin morris - 27 February 2007
very impressed new v hd box and on demand options . virgin channel good idea thow not many programs on yet but they will come only negative is remote functions a bit slow
    *****  Review by Anne Scott - 20 February 2007
Loved my tv,phone, computer package but being able to add my mobile is even better!! I am a disabled lady and have to say I'm really looking forward to growing with Virgin..Richard..You rock.
    *****  Review by Helen - 13 February 2007
great service, excellent staff that installed the phone, tv and broadband. They were personable, tidy and very neat. Had no problems since installation, very clear DVD user guides.
    *****  Review by Dave - 12 February 2007
Virgin Media are already coming up trumps in terms of communicating with customers. The 300 mins/300 texts mobile for 10 is unbeatable. Blueyonder was already excellent broadband and anyone that wants to break Murdoch's monopoly of tv sport has got to be worth supporting.
    *****  Review by John Crow - 12 February 2007
I am already a long standing Broadband user, recently changing to a 'TALK' bundle.I have found it impossible to find a link to the Tarif page, also Customer services were unable to give me this information.I asked whether 0800 numbers were actually FREE via Virgin, but no-one knew the answer. The Broadband is very good though,so maybe a few glitches with the new system.
    *****  Review by David Shackleton - 11 February 2007
Excellent so far Had most of the package before with NTL and V+ was installed on Feb 7th Pause live TV, On demand TV, easy to record.DVD recorder is surplus now. Includes an easy guide on CH 999 for the technically ungifted.

    *****  Review by Judith Brown - 10 February 2007
Delighted with excellent service given to me this morning. I have been given a very good deal and the manner with which Mark Copsey dealt with my queries was exceptional!!
    *****  Review by Wayne Rowling - 10 February 2007
I havent had a bad experience from virgin media just thought i would pass on a comment, i feel this is one of the best ideas that has come along in a while, if the packages are good. why carn't everyone work like this including all house bills just paying one bill out a month instead of bits here and there. one up for branson again why dosent this man get cotrol of the lottery!

    Our Conclusion:

So it's Rupert Murdock vs Richard Branson. Many companies have tried taking him on before but failed. Will the people's champion Branson fair better? At these prices and with Virgin's history of excellence, quite possibly.
